Short answer: because text messages aren't a private channel. SMS isn't encrypted end to end, shows on lock screens and sits in phone carriers' systems. So ZeroMiss uses texts only as a doorway: any text to your clinic gets a short reply with a private, single-use link, and the conversation continues in an encrypted web chat. Names and dates of birth go into secure fields that are sent to your booking system, not to the AI.
How the secure chat works
- The link works once, expires after 24 hours, and only goes to the phone number the patient texted or called from.
- The chat runs over HTTPS. It closes after 30 minutes without messages or when the patient taps End chat; a new link is one text away.
- Secure fields collect name, date of birth and email only when a booking or change needs them. The AI model never sees those values.
- Confirmation: nothing is written to your EMR until the patient taps Confirm on a read-back of the booking.
- The text itself never contains a name, a service, a time or a health detail.
Example text: "Thanks for texting [Your Clinic]. For your privacy we continue in a secure chat: [link]. Please don't text personal or health details."
Your website works the same way
Instead of a chat box on your website, patients enter their mobile number and receive a secure link by text. The conversation happens on their own phone, in the secure chat, so nothing sensitive is typed into a public web page.
Doesn't that add friction?
One tap. Patients who texted "I need to book" find the chat already answering that when it opens. In exchange, their details never travel by SMS, and your clinic avoids the most common privacy slip in patient messaging.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if the patient only has a landline?
Calls from a landline get a callback offer instead of a link, and the request goes to your team.
Is the secure chat kept?
The conversation is kept for your clinic for 30 days, like call notes. The protected-field copy of name and birth date is removed when the chat ends or within 24 hours.
Can someone else open the link?
A link works once. Seeing or changing an appointment additionally needs the patient's name and date of birth matched in your EMR.
Can our staff reply in the secure chat?
Yes. When they do, the patient gets a text with a new link (no message content in the text).
Bottom Line
Treat SMS as a doorbell, not a filing cabinet. ZeroMiss uses texts to bring patients into a secure chat, and keeps their details out of the message thread entirely.
